So Close!

We are only $56 away from unlocking the next stretch goal!

While we wait for that point to finally be reached, I did want to announce that next stretch goal formally anyway: At $30,000, we'll be expanding the number of classes in the book! At this point we're all just watching the campaign and biting our nails to find out just how much content we'll be able to put into the book.

Thank you everyone; let's make this last day count!

39-Hours Left!
about 7 years ago – Tue, Feb 14, 2017 at 06:15:09 PM

Last night we crossed the 48 hour point for the campaign, as well as the $24,000 level. We're well on our way to breaking the $26,000 stretch goal and, maybe, going beyond that to make room for all of our proposed classes.

Let's keep the momentum going!

Add-Ons, Skill Spheres, and Stretch Goals
about 7 years ago – Mon, Feb 13, 2017 at 08:00:34 PM

There are a lot of points of business that need addressing, so I'll try and go down them quickly.

Add-Ons

I realize now it hasn't been specified on the main page, but getting any physical book as an add-on also gets you the PDF.

Skill Spheres

While during the add-on survey the gish book had more votes than the book of skill spheres, the suggestion of a skill book has been met with a lot of enthusiasm. We've talked about it, done the math, and then realized something that made me do a double take.

We'd already booked a chapter in our outline for handling skills.

I'd completely forgotten about it; we've spent so much time on spheres and classes that the rest of the outline has sat untouched for weeks. But in the end it means, if we want to expand our use of skills into a full-on optional replacement setup, the page count had already been set aside for it.

So no, we're not going to do a separate book of Skill Spheres; instead, Skill Spheres will officially be appearing in the core Spheres of Might book!

Stretch Goals

With the gish book unlocked as an add-on, and the skill book being absorbed by the main book, there's only one thing that really remains to make this book as good as we think it can be; unlocking a bigger page count. As was previously mentioned, we have developed more classes than we had budgeted to include in the book.

Some classes we can simply move to the unlocked gish book (the sage, for example, has had some back and forth over how 'mystical' it should be given it's place in a book focusing on martial combat. If we moved it to the gish book, we could not only give it back its mysticism, but augment it with Spheres of Power options to create a truly awesome mystic master). Others, though, I would be heartbroken to see them cut from the main book.

So, once we unlock the expanded GM support, there's one more stretch goal that I really, really would like to see us reach; the ability to increase the class count from 6 to 8. This would allow us, between SoM and the gish book, to print every class we want, and that sounds like a great idea to me.

I'll need to crunch specific numbers before officially adding the next stretch goal to the image on the campaign's main page, but it's looking like it would be somewhere between $30,000 and $32,000; if we can reach that level in these next 3 days, we will be able to make SoM knowing we left nothing worthwhile on the cutting room floor, and that would let us as designers do a much-needed sigh of relief.

Thanks again for backing our project, and here's to a successful final stretch!

Spheres of Skill
about 7 years ago – Mon, Feb 13, 2017 at 12:32:25 PM

The concept of giving the 'sphere treatment' to skills is one that we've played with before, but even we were surprised at how popular the suggestion was in the survey (it was behind doing the gish book by only a couple votes).

Although the campaign here is getting close to its end, we've been talking about this extra add-on, discussing whether or not we should add it to the campaign, coming up with ideas on how it might be executed as well as how it would fit into the sphere system as a whole.

If you have the time, we've started a threat on GitP's forums to let us more easily hear from you. If utility talents and a skill book is something you're interested, please stop by and let us know your opinion on the subject; our job is to give you things to make your games more fun, and if this is something you want for your game, we'd love to hear your thoughts on what exactly you'd like to see in a Sphere Skill book.

Gish Book Officially Unlocked
about 7 years ago – Fri, Feb 10, 2017 at 11:27:00 AM

Right after the announcement last night, we crossed the $20,000 line, so I can officially announce the gish book has been unlocked! This book will include not only archetypes, but also new classes designed for use with both systems.

For kickstarter backers, the book is available as a $5 PDF, or $20 for a print/PDF combo. Simply increase your pledge without increasing your pledge level, and after the campaign is over let us know which add-ons you want.
